2012 Golden Gloves Results

Two King's Gym Fighters were in action this evening at the Cleveland Area Golden Gloves FInals.  Jeremy Abram was in the fifth bout of the evening trying to avenge an earlier defeat to Chris Maynor.  After getting off to a slow start, Jeremy turned up the heat at the end of the second round and had a fantastic third round.  It didn't end up being enough to take the fight, but Jeremy showed us how much heart that he has.  Jeremy should be back in the ring very soon!

In the 14th fight of the evening Emanuel Williams fought Josh Rosenberger from the West Side Boxing Club.  Class had to lose 2 pounds right before the weigh in to make the 165 lb limit but looked strong the entire fight.  Class landed a very strong straight left hand early in the first round that would have led to a stoppage had the ref not given his opponent a standing eight count.  Class went on to get one more standing eight count on his way to a great victory.  It should also be mentioned that Class showed his suburb defense with his opponent landing hardly any punches.  Congratulations to Emanuel for being the Cleveland Area 165 lb Novice Golden Gloves Champion!!

2012 Cleveland Area Golden Gloves

The King's Gym Fighters are alive and well in the 2012 Cleveland Area Golden Gloves.

Defending 2011 132 lb Novice Champion, Jeremy Abram, won his first round matchup in the 132 lb Open Division against Ramiro Hernandez on Friday Night in a very competitive fight.  Jeremy started off the fight very strong controlling with his Jab and not getting into a brawl that Hernandez wanted.  As the fight progressed Hernandez turned up the pace and started to brawl with Abram, but ultimately Abram was able to hang on with the close victory.  Jeremy will now move on to the Championship Fight on April 21st against Chris Maynor from the Thurgood/PAL Boxing Gym.  Jeremy and Chris have fought once in the past with Maynor coming out victorious.  Jeremy looks to avenge his defeat and take home his second straight belt.

Also in action on April 21st will be Emanual "Class" Williams Jr. in the 165 lb Novice Division.  Class will be fighting Josh Rosenberger from the West Side Boxing Club who made it to the Semi Finals in the 152 lb Sub-Novice Division Last Year.

Come check out our two Boxers Fight for the Championship on April 21st at the Brook Park Rec. Center at 17400 Holland Rd. in Brook Park, OH.  The bouts will begin at 7 p.m.

Results from the Arnold Classic

Last weekend the King's Gym Boxing Team had a great showing at the Arnold Classic Boxing Tournament in Columbus Ohio.  The action started out on Saturday with a victory by Rick Perry in the first round of the 178 lb Novice Bracket over Josh Kraushar of Cincinatti, OH.  Rick absolutely dominated the fight and won a 5 - 0 decision on all of the cards.

All three of the King's Gym Fighters were in action on Sunday in the Championship Round.  Rick once again led things off and lost a close decision that saw him lose a point for holding in the 3rd round, it was a questionable deduction that might have cost him the championship.  We are still very proud of Rick's Silver Medal.

The Second King's Gym fighter in the ring was Jeremy Abram in the Final of the 132 lb Elite Division.  Jeremy's opponent was the tough Chandelero Reyes from Columbus Ohio.  Jeremy dominated the entire fight landing a large amount of jabs and uppercuts.  This is Jeremy's second consecutive Gold Medal in the Arnold Classic.

In the second to last bout of the tournament, DeShon Banks made is return to the ring after over 5 years.  His opponent was the tough Jeffrey Camp who had previously competed in the World Series of Boxing during 2011.  DeShon quickly shook the rust off his gloves by landing punches early in the first round.  The next two rounds were very close and somehow DeShon lost a very close decision.  DeShon was happy to get back in the ring and will be back in competition soon at the Cleveland Area Golden Gloves Tournament.

Congrats to Rick, DeShon and Jeremy for their great showing in the tournament!!!

King’s Gym Boxing Club Year End Awards

2011 Fighter of the Year – Jeremy Abram

Jeremy was once again the most active fighter on the team during 2011. His accomplishments during the year include: Golden Gloves 132 lb Novice Championship, Arnold Classic 132 lb Novice Champion, Ohio State Fair 132 lb Runner Up and he totaled over 11 wins during the year. Jeremy will be turning pro in 2012.

Fight of the Year – Richard Perry Jr. vs William Johnson – 6/24/11

This was an easy decision as Rick produced by far the most exciting fight during 2011. During the King’s Gym home show, Rick put on a performance that had the crowd screaming. Even though he didn’t pull off the victory, we were all proud of Rick’s performance on that June night.

Newcomer of the Year – Emanuel Williams Jr.

Emanuel came to the King’s Gym Boxing Club over the summer of 2011 and rattled off a couple of strong performances to end 2011. We are all looking forward to seeing what Emanuel can produce during 2012.

Friday Night at the Fights II - Results

King's Gym Fighters Emanuel Williams Jr., Rick Perry and Solomon Howell were in action last night at the Power Sports Institute in Randall Ohio at the King's Gym Friday Night Fights II.

Emanuel started out the night strong with a hard fought victory over Cory Downing from New Castle Pennslyvania.  Emanuel was looking for the knockout, however Cory stayed tough and lasted to the final bell.

In the fourth fight of the evening, Solomon Howell stepped into the ring with Francis Stewart from the Cleveland Boxing Club.  In a very exciting fight, Sol fought hard and kept Francis backing up for most of the fight.  Even though he lost a close decision we were proud of Sol's continued improvement and we can't wait for a rematch with Francis.

The last King's Gym Fighter to see the ring was Richard Perry Jr., against a last minute fill in, Antoine Jones of the Cleveland Boxing Club.  In a difficult matchup that had many headbutts, Rick lost a close decision.  Rick's continued improvement was very evident in this matchup, we can't wait to see him in the ring again soon!

Other winners of the night include: WIllard Osborne, Orlando Meadows Jr., Reno McCoy, Niguel King, La'Shawn Edge, Thomas Mattice and the fighter of the Night Isaiah Steen.

The King's Gym Team will be back in action at the Arnold Classic in two weeks in Columbus.  Stay tuned for more details!!

USA Nationals and Silver Gloves Results

Posted by Alex Cooper on January 9, 2012 at 7:35 PM Comments comments (0)

Both Jeremy and Sol lost close decisions in their opening bouts in the USA Nationals and Silver Gloves Tournament.

Jeremy fought 2011 National PAL Champion Alejandro "Popo" Salinas and fought a fantastic fight.  Jeremy controlled the fight with his jab and rocked Salinas with several right hands.  By the end of the fight the team thought we had the victory (along with the crowd) however the decision went to the veteran Salinas 4 cards to 1.  Jeremy was disappointed with the decision but was back in the Gym on Sunday preparing for his next fight on the King's Gym show in February.

Sol also lost a razor thin decision to Eddie Colon out of Freddie's Gym in Lorain.  Sol fought tough and is looking forward to a rematch soon.

Look for both Jeremy and Sol in action on February 17th at the King's Gym Friday Night Fights II.
